Hey everybody =)

I have a problem with my friends computer. About a year ago it crashed and wouldn't start up and not after trying a few things she used the 'repair' option in the F12 menu. Something along those lines =P Anyway, she had to go through the OS installation again making new users and so on, except once she got access to her computer again, she found that all her old folders were locked, 'Access Denied'.

The problem is that now she has very little space left on the HD, usually around 500megs. I think I know how to get into the locked folder, but I need to be able to start the computer in safe mode, and the bloody computer won't let me. Pressing F8 at startup results in the screen going blank and staying that way. I read that you can restart in safe mode using 'msconfig' but there's a problem with that too:
whenever I try and open a window like the Task Manager, msconfig or regedit, they close almost immediately, as if I pressed down the escape button. Which I'm not =P

Are there any other ways of getting into safe mode, or even better does anyone have any idea why my windows close like this?

Thank you ^_^

The msconfig/taskman/regedit issue is most likely a virus infection. A few of them kill those apps whenever they start.
