Problem with xp - Internet connection is invalid

I'm trying to update half-life and I keep gettting this message that my connection is invalid and can't continue to update my program. It's says to check my internet settings but everything looks fine. Surfing the internet and everything is fine but can't do this. Any ideas?
 
Forgot to mention that I have a cable internet connection. Using XP with all updates and Intel Pro 100 management nic.
