Problem with XP Home ed.

Had pc running one day, left the house for an hour came back and my pc was messed up, I had lost icons in the task bar and the audio mixer icon will not stay running, lost some others too. now later down the road my games are starting to lock up. anyone have anything similar to this happen?

OK, let me first say that you need to do some more homework first. In order to solve, (or help) you with your troubles, you first need to give more info. Trust me in that it just doesn't happen like, "left the house for an hour came back and my pc was messed up". There had to be more to it than that. No one is trying to blame ANYONE for ANYTHING at this point. We just want to get to the bottom of the trouble.
I don't know what else I can say for now. Just go back through your notes, your recollections, etc and figure out what has happened in the recent past. Follow up on that and LMK.

I wish you luck.

Chile,

Did you run your antivirus program just in case a virus got to your system while you were gone? Could happen if you left your computer connected to the internet.

I have the Norton antivirus and firewall 2002. yes I did run a virus check.
I first noticed a problem when downloading alot of music from winmx, and I dont think it was long after I installed a WD 20gb hard drive as a second drive. Also when I first noticed the problem the audio mixer icon looked funny like it was melting down. Also I had put in a new bios chip recently, the other one got a bad flash. I have the whole Norton system works 2002 and used goback and that seemed to make things worse. Some things have started to run a little better but things like noads and audio mixer and winzip, wont stay running on the task bar like they did before.
If I can think of anything else I'll post.
thank's
