problem with wireless network file sharing

this is my first time networking a laptop and its giving me hell!

My lappy came and I also bought a Netgear b/g wireless router from bestbuy to go with it.
Let me tell you my setup first:
1. internet is connected to the router and then to desktop via a ethernet cable.
2. the lappy is connected to the router via wireless.
Both machines found the router without problems and they can share internet connections.

The file sharing is the problem. I can setup the desktop with a workgroup easily (anyone could) and I am sharing 2 drives in the workgroup.
The wireless is giving me problem. I don't even know where to start on it.
How can I make the lappy to read and write to the shared drives on my desktop using the wireless router? (and the other way round also)

Please help

Regards

File sharing works exactly the same on wireless as it does on wired connections. If both computers can access the Internet then they both have connections that can be used to communicate with each other.

Assuming that both computers are on the same workgroup, you need to have the folders/files shared on the network with permissions for users on the other computers to access the files (if you are using NTFS) or with an appropriate password (if simple file sharing). Then you need to either turn off the Windows firewall and any other software firewall you might have on the computer(s) sharing the files, or else configure the firewall to allow File and Printer Sharing requests to pass through the firewall.
