problem with winxp install

I have an Albatron motherboard with Intel celeron 1.6. Window XP started acting funny and when you try to log off of a user, it would stay on "saving your settings" and never complete the logoff. I tried reinstalling Windows and it "hangs" at 34 minutes remaining in "installing devices". The dot keeps moving and the text telling how wonderful WinXP is keeps changing, but very little disk activity for 30 minutes at the same spot. Must be waiting for a device to respond. I tried removing all PCI cards except the video card - even tried swapping the AGP video card for an old PCI one, but that didn't help. Any ideas? is Motherboard shot?

How come the windows install doesn't give you any info on what the problem is? Is there any way to find out? like a log or a way to have it display what it's doing during the install?
