on my fathers computer when it boots up after the win2000 splash screen the screen goes blank and the monitor states

"OUT OF RANGE"
Fh = 74.9khz
Fv = 59hz

the normal range for the Fh is 30khz - 70khz
and the Fv is 50hz - 150hz

if I boot into safe mode I can get the screen to run and check things out, but when booting normally I get the error every single time.

I've never dealt with this before and I don't know what to try or do to fix this??

any help would be greatly appreciated

It is a refresh rate problem, the driver in normal mode is trying to set your refresh/screen size above what your monitor can handle. Try booting into safe mode, changing the refresh/screen size, and reboot. That should solve it.

And if changing the refresh rate in safe mode doesn't work, here's a registry fix to do while booted in safe mode:

Start the system in Safe mode.

From the Start menu, click Run. In the Run dialog box, type: regedit, and then click OK.

In the Registry Editor dialog box, double-click HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, Config, 0001, Display, Settings.

Double-click RefreshRate.

Change the value data to 60, and then click OK.

Double-click Resolution.

Change the value data to 640,480, and then click OK.

Once you're booted in to Windows regular normally, you can change the refresh rate and other display settings in the display applet as normal.

Restart the system in Normal mode.

thanks for the help gentlemen,

tried to boot into safe mode and change the settings that way, but the Raedon7500 drivers aren't listed, just basic vga so that didnt work.

I'll try the registry changes and see if I can get it up and running.

I'll post if that takes care of it when I get back :)

just an update and for those who didn't know this (as I didn't)

the registry fix is under the

HKEY_CURRENT_CONFIG section in Windows2000 professional

found it and found out why it wasn't working - dad had accidently set the res to 2056x1548 or something like that *LOL*

so hope this helps others
