Problem with windows media player

im trying to play a movie in windows media player and it keeps on giving me this message:

even though i downloaded the most recent codecs from the windows site.. can anyone help??

also, i would play in other media players, such as real player, and it would play for 10 secs then all of a sudden stop playin

Where did you download this movie from, and does it have anything in the name like DivX or XviD?

What extension does the file have? (e.g. wmv, ogm, avi, etc)

avi... and its a bittorrent... the few secs it does play, says DivX (i also dl'ed the latest codecs for that too)

well, same thing with VLC, the video stops after 12 secs... im starting to think that the file itself is corrupt... dunno... will try again tomorrow... jsut keep those suggestions comming :)

You can also download for free and try "real alternative" I use it for everything now. It comes with a ton of codecs.

Try this, it's one of two codecs I have installed, and I can play everything that I have downloaded. The other is a subtitle codec, but it's rarely used.

My vote goes to corrupt file. Video codecs can't change in the middle of a file.

so yeah, i gave up... tried all ur suggestions and have come to the conclusion that it was a corrupt file... thanks guys for ur help
