problem with win update on new install of win 7

i installed clean copy of win 7 explorer worked and could update explorer off explorer but when i click on Windows update it turns on i see red x looks like its working the bar moves from left to right but nothing else happens.

only idea i got is i have different ver of .net on the backup of drivers and i noticed i had .net 5.2.1 before the reinstall so when i went to install nvidia if said it needs .net first so i installed .net 5.2.(maybe thats the prob other ther then that i have no idea)

It is common that on a new install that it takes a while to look for updates during the first run.

What I have been doing personally is using WSUSoffline, to keep most updates already downloaded and the run that and then do windows updates. As I work on many machines.

For a single machine, I usually make sure that windows updates is set to never check for the first run, then do the updates.

If there are any that are already downloaded, I do the Shutdown and Install updates then check for new ones.

Again it just takes time from a fresh install as it has to determine what is and is not installed

I did this just this morning actually. The first "Checking for Updates" took... about an hour before it showed me the 144 important and ~65 optionals.

Totally normal at this stage in the game.

After a few times when win7 update check (I set it to manual) never completed successfully after an hour or longer I upgraded to 10.
