Problem with WD HDD

Ok, this drive is irritating me a little and I have never encountered this type of error before.

I start the computer and the post messages show that all hardware is responding normally. Each device loads up and the start up proceedure continues as usual until Windows loads fully. When I try to access the drive its not showing up as an activated volume. Disk Management in the control panels menu shows the disk as present but deativated as 'Failed'. What could cause the drive to show up with this status if it appeared as normal during the boot-up sequence. This drive performed flawlessy 3 days ago and since then I've only moved the computer to a different location. All connections and jumpers are correct on the drive.

I'm running through a couple of diagnostic suites right now, but so far everything says the volume is operating normally and the drive is detectable by these programs. Does anyone have an idea what could be causing this problem? Any help is greatly appriaticated.

try useing Partition Magic to look at it. if it sees it and says anything like "Bad" or "Failed". then teh drive is toast. sorry

Ok, I tried Parition Magic and Western Digital's own diagnostic tools and both of them say the drive doesn't have any errors?

Everything shows that the drive is formatted and there is a partition present so.... what the hell is going on?
