Hi all,
I've gotten wake on lan working at home and love it. I'm trying to do the same thing on my pc at work and am having some problems.
It works, but only if the PC has been in sleep mode for a short while. If i leave it in sleep for even just an hour or so, i cant wake it remotely. I'm assuming this is something due to the network at work and not the pc itself since it seems unlikely something on the PC would be changing while it's in sleep.
The PC itself is a dell vostro 200.
I dont have access to any of the network routers or anything, just admin rights on my own machine. I did manage to get the IT dept to give me a static IP at least since i thought the dhcp lease expiring might have been why it stopped waking after being off a while. but that didn't help.
Anyone got any ideas as to what i can tell the IT dept to look at/change to try and get this working?
Oh and the way i wake it - i wrote a aspx page to send out a magic packet (UDP, port 9) to wake the pc. Same thing i've done for my home pc. I've logged onto the server that has the webpage to verify it can still resolve my PC name. I've also tried using the IP address directly rather then relying on the PC name but the problem persist.
Any ideas?
