Problem With Volume Control

I just got the Klipsch Promedias but I'm having some problems with my volume control. The speakers work, but whenever I open the volume control (the little yellow thing in the system tray) it puts my cd audio on mute. This also happens even if I don't open it, like when I put a cd into my computer it automatically mutes. I have a Soundblaster Live! Value and am running Win2K. And yes I have the latest drivers from Creative. I'm pretty sure I have everything set up right but if anyone has these speakers can you tell me how you have them set up. Thanks in advance.

Also whever I open Internet Explorer while a cd is playing it also mutes.

Sorry I don't have a solution, only commiseration. I've also been seeing some strange things with my CD Audio (W2K, SB Live!), and I *think* it all started when I installed Creative's latest drivers. I'm not positive because I don't play CDs on my PC too often, and my problems aren't identical to yours, but vaguely similar.

I'm probably wrong (I'm far from an expert), but I don't see how the speakers could be involved. I don't think Windows, nor your sound card, cares about what kind of speakers you have. Did you install the drivers alone, or did you also install the Launcher? If the latter, I'm curious... does opening Creative's Mixer do the same thing?

Anyway, I'm gonna see if I can find the previous drivers anywhere. If I do, I'll install them and post the reults here.

dont blame the speakers, they dont have the power to mute CD's, its a win2k/SB live issue.

Actually I think that was my mistake... after re-reading praetor1's post, I don't think s/he was blaming the speakers, just mentioning t.

I fixed it. I had to reinstall the drivers because the first time it couldn't find one of the files. Thanks everyone for your suggestions.
