Problem with video

I recently bought a new system.
When I try to play a few games like Age of Mythology; Warcraft III etc. and when the intro video for these games comes up, my monitor shows the error message "Hz ?", and I could not view anything else. I looked up in the Samsung manual for this error message, It says "A monitor recreates visual signals received from the computer. Therefore, if there is trouble with the computer or the video card, this can cause the monitor to become blank, have poor coloring, noise, Sync. Out of Range, etc. In this case, first check the source of the problem, and then contact a service center or your dealer."
I tried adjusting the screen resolution to 800x600, 1024x768 but nothing works.

I am able to play other games like Age of Empires III, Civilization IV etc in 1024x768.
I also tried to adjust the Video overlay settings to change the video size, but it doesn't help.

If any of you know a solution to this problem would you please help?

config - AMD Athlon 3200+; ASUS A8NE; NVidia GeForce 7800 GT; 2 GB RAM; Samsung 17 inch monitor.

Try forcing to 60 Hz (lowest common denominator) and see if that helps. If it does we can force it to the max your monitor supports.

Go to start menu, run, and type in:
dxdiag

If you get a dialog about extra checking or whatever, it doesn't matter what you choose there. Once you see the DX Diagnostic Tool click the More Help tab. Click Override..., select override value, type in 60, press OK, and exit. Then start a game and see if it works.
