Problem with video playback...

My computer has been doing this for a while and I haven't been able to figure out why or how to fix it (short of re-installing windows). Every time I play a video, in any format, and with any player, the video is all washed out to the point where you can just barely make out what is in the video. I have no idea what caused this to start happening but it's finally got me annoyed enough to post and see if anybody here has seen this before, or if anybody knows how I can fix it?

Thanks!

The older Nvidia drivers caused that issue. What version are you using? The newest ones shouldn't have that problem.

I actually did update the media player, it didn't fix anything... I haven't updated my drivers in a while though and I'm using an nvidea card so I'll give that a try tonight. Stupid of me to not do that first thing actually, thanks for the suggestions!

I hate to tell you homey... but that's what started happening to me a bit before my 6800 GT died. Started getting more crashes in 3d games, towards the end was getting patterns of little yellow dots in 3d apps that would carry over to the desktop.

Well, the card's technically not dead. Had tried different drivers though and didn't notice any help. Popped in an older Nvidia card that was laying around, video no longer washed out, gaming is fine (if not as smooth as with 6800).

Hopefully this isn't the case on your end. If you do get some interesting info, please let us (me :) ) know.

Don't worry, it's a weird problem with NVIDIA drivers and I know I figured out how to fix it but I can't remember how right now. There is some bizarre setting somewhere. Let me think on it.....

I believe this will fix it:

this is a very commen problem thats easily solved (I know I've experienced it). I encounterd this as sonn as I swicthed from my 9800se to my 6800.

Leave WMP's overlay option on (overlays is what all videos use with the exeption of a few codecs), then go into your "nvidia control panel" Click on "video overlay setting" then click "adjust colors" now that your at the color settings for overlays click on the "color profile" right under the graph, switch that to "advaned mode" this will reset all colors to defult, thus reulting in that 'washed out', real bright and blurry effect to be gone! Now your ready to Enjoy DVDs again!! Post back.
BTW: there is no need to reduce acceleration!
