Problem with video codecs

It started about a week ago; I was using the defiler pak with Media Player Classic, and a certain avi file of a certain show I had played fine. Then, all of a sudden, it encountered a problem; it wouldn't play the video (the audio was fine) for the first 15-20 seconds of the show, on each and every single episode of it that I have. Today I tried playing it and it wouldn't play ANYTHING, so I uninstalled DefilerPak + MPC, then reinstalled MPC and FDDshow, and it will play it but once again won't play the first 15-20 seconds. I downloaded VLC and it plays the entire thing fine.

Any tips on what I should do?

MPC has options to override certain filters vs. using built-in ones. Under options, check filters and see what built-in ones it's using, and what external ones it's using. Changing the settings related to AVI files -- mp3, AVI splitter, etc. -- may fix the problem.

Additionally, I've never heard of Defiler pack, so I'm wondering if maybe some codec included in there is the problem. Try the k-lite codec pack, though update to the latest ffdshow.

Defiler pack is fairly well known, but alas.

I installed the latest FDDShow and like I said, it works better; but it still has video artifacting in the episodes, while VLC is running perfectly.

I guess I'll try playing with MPC's filters.
