Problem with VIA Miniport IDE drivers.

I have downloaded the new IDE drivers from the Soltek site.
I have managed to install the VSD IDE drivers, but when I install the VIA Miniport IDE drivers, upon restart, the system fails to load Windows. The Hard disk light just stays on with no activity. I then have to go into safe mode and uninstall the drivers, after which Windows starts correctly. What could be the problem?
My two hard disks are Seagate... ST310212A (master) & ST38420A (slave).
Any clue??
Thanks.

which version of windows are you using? if you are using win98se or winme do not use the via IDE driver as it is built in both of these operating systems. just go into device manager under hard disks and enable DMA from there. this is probaly the reason you had trouble.

The VIA 4-1 drivers are on your installation cd.
The Pro2-a Uses the new South Bridge, install all the VIA drivers from your cd.

I am running Windows 98SE. With the default Windows 98 drivers, if I enabled DMA, windows would not start.
I have nonetheless installed the latest VSD drievrs from the Soltek site. However, it IS ONLY when I install the Miniport IDE driver that I have problems with Windows 98 starting up.
I wanted this driver so that I could use the VIA DMA tool. DMA mode is enabled. Is there a conflict when istalling this Miniport driver between the two Seagate HDD??
Any help would be appreciated.
