Hi!
I have a problem with the USB ports of my PC and I would like to listen to some suggestions.
Here are the facts:
I have a problem with the USB ports of my PC and I would like to listen to some suggestions.
Here are the facts:
A) I tried to to test a 32GB SDHC Class 10 card with H2testw 1.4. I connected it to the PC through an external USB card reader. I used a port in the front panel of the PC case. The test failed after about 20 GB of writing.
B) I ran an "Error Scan" with HD Tune 2.55 which after the tenth GB returned every sector damaged.
C) I repeated steps A & B this time using a USB port directly placed on the motherboard. The results were similar. (Not identical, but errors were also returned by the tests.)
D) I repeated steps A and B using my laptop. I did both tests twice. Once with the card inserted in the laptop's embedded card reader and the other time inserted in the same external USB card reader and connected to one of the laptop's USB ports. Every test that ran on the laptop was 100% successful!
All the above suggest that the SDHC card is OK, the USB card reader is OK and the problem is with the PC. (A damaged card would always be damaged... The same thing goes for the USB card reader.)
After all this I tested a 1 GB USB stick on the PC to see if I will get errors with it, but scans were successful (I only tested it with HD Tune, because it was almost full). It seems that there is a problem with larger storage media because in the past I had some problems copying files to an external 16 GB SDHC class 10 card, using the PC and the external USB card reader.
In an attempt to solve the problem I installed the latest chipset drivers for my motherboard (which there may be have already been installed). No improvement noticed.
So here is my question: Is there any way to test the USB controller or any other path of troubleshooting?
