Ok, here's the scenario.
i have a dell dimension 2400
I have my computer at college, i always left it on, never had any problems until i came back from thanksgiving. for the weekend, we had to turn off all electronics and unplug everything. So when i came back from thanksgiving, i tried to turn on my computer, but to no avail. When i pressed the button to boot it, i would get a small light on the keyboard, but the system wouldn't turn on. After pressing it a few times, the lights no longer came on.
that's a bad problem.
when in doubt, smack it. so i tilted the box to my right, hit it on the left side, hit the button and wa-la, it turned on! Needless to say, i didn't turn it off until i had to. the computer ran fine when it was past the intial boot. i was playing games, talking on aim, doing papers, everything was fine.
2 weeks later, i opted to go home for the weekend, and absent mindedly turned off my computer. when i got back to my dorm, the computer wouldn't even flicker lights on the keyboard, i couldn't turn it back on for the life of me.
upon further inspection inside, the motherboard was getting power. everything looked fine to 3 different trained eyes. we thought maybe it was the switch, so we took it out and tried it in another comp, of course it worked.
now keep in mind the computer works fine AFTER you can get it to boot. its the matter of it booting!
so we thought maybe it's the motherboard, so i went to newegg and invested some bucks, got a new mobo, it arrived today, installed it. guess what? still didnt work. now im not angry that it wasn't the problem, i needed a new mobo since my old one didnt have space for a video card.
i'm going to take it into microcenter morrow, but i'd like to hear what you guys may think the problem is, id just like some new ideas. if its a small problem that was completely overlooked, i can possibly save some more dollars.
thanks in advance!
yeah yeah, my first problem is that it's a dell.
