My previous setup:
ASUS 4770 video card max resolution at 2560x1600
Sceptre 24" recommended resolution at 1650x1050

My new setup:
ASUS 4770 video card max resolution at 2560x1600
LG E2441V-BN 24" recommended resolution at 1920x1080

The problem with the new setup:
After installing my new LG monitor and change the system resolution to recommended setting at 1920x1080, my desktop screen does not fill up the monitor screen. The monitor screen has 1" black border regardless whatever setting I have changed. The desktop screen resolution also have max out at 1920x1080.

My questions are do I need a new graphic card? And how would I know which graphic card would satisfied the requirement for the new LG screen? I am thinking of buying an ATI 5770 video card. I have just built a new home server system so I am not trying to spent on any video card over $160. Any suggestion what was the problem?

Where is the black border, is it on one side, two sides, all 4 sides?

How is the video card connected to the monitor?

You can try using a DVI cable or VGA cable to test, instead of using HDMI (I assume your issue might be related to HDMI?).

If it connected via HDMI you need to adjust the scaling at your ccc control panel.

I just got back from work and updated the Catalyst Control Center. It is now call AMD VISION Engine Control Center.

Here is what I did:

-My Digital Flat-Panels
-Scaling Options (Digital Flat-Panel)
then move the Scaling Option marker to 0% Overscan to fill the desktop screen to fit the monitor screen.

Problem solved . Thank you very much Necc and everyone for the advises. I am glad I don't have to spent any extra $$$.
