Problem with the mhz of my i5

Hi, recently I got an i5-3330 + 8gbs RAM (4x2x1) + Gigabyte z77-ds3h + HD5850 and I got some issues.

Well, I passed the 3DMark and the 'Maximum turbo core clock' is 1.600mhz when indeed is 3.200ghz, I checked out with the CPUz and in desktop I'm always gettin 1600-1700mhz... when I play it goes to 3000-3100 and I'm feeling like that's not true, also, in the power options I tried the 'performance' option but it still runnin on 1600mhz... how can I solve that?

Benchmark programs are really bad at detecting CPU clocks for some reason. Your CPU probably idles at the 1.6Ghz mark when there is nothing intensive happening. As long as it goes to 3.2Ghz while gaming it should be fine.

Thank you! but that doesn't explain why my cpu is still running 1600mhz with the power option 'performance' activated :S

Switch it back to the 'balanced' profile. The whole point of features like Intel SpeedStep is that it clocks the processor down when the processor isn't being pushed, to reduce electricity usage/waste and reduce heat output that unnecessarily increases fan speeds as well as heating up other components that would otherwise last longer.

When the processor has sufficient demands on its time, it will automatically be cranked up in speed to take care of the load.

If you want to ensure that your processor will step up with sufficient demand, with the balanced profile enabled, run CPU-Z, then run Prime95. You should see the processor speed go from an 'idle' speed (on my Ph2 that's ~800MHz) up to its full speed automatically.

Probably because your core(s) are in idle C-States. Even when high performance is set when monitoring software wakes an idle core to measure frequency then during that time there is some latency where the core(s) spend some time at the LFM (16x bin) before transitioning to higher bins. More so in IVB than HSW.
