Problem with the display on my new laptop

Hi Yall. Well, I just got my first laptop. (A Fujitsu C2220). And it was a refurb, but I got a great deal on it.

This is the problem:
The display looks *Pixelated* for certain shades/colors. For example, the standard 'grey' that is for the Windows programs on the title bar looks weird at a slight angle. Like it won't fully be shaded, and there will be parts that are a slight different shade of it. Does that make any sense at all?

It happens for all programs that contain that certain shade, and no matter if I maximize or minimize, or no matter where I move the program on the screen, when I look at it at a slight angle, it does that.

If this doesn't make sense, please let me know.

So, what am I looking for here? It just came from Fujitsu directly, and it IS warrantied still, as I went ahead and got an RMA number. I just thought there might some utilties or something I should be checking, but I'm not. Any help, I would appreciate it.

Under Device Manager, the Display Adapter is:
Radeon IGP 340M, the Driver Version is 6.14.1.6292

Like I said, any programs that will help me determine what is wrong?

I would like to know that I gave it honest troubleshooting before sending it back. (Yes, I want my new toy.) But since I know absolutely ZILCH about these displays, I come here for the guidance of some experts.

Under Settings for the Display, there are all sorts of options that I have no idea what to do with: OpenGL, Direct3D, Overlay, etc.

So any help anyone?

Thanks in Advance.

congrats on your first laptop (how's it going? Haven't heard for you in a while..) Have you searched for the newest video drivers?

You could try one of the calibration programs at www.monitorsdirect.com; I don't know of any other programs that would help troubleshoot this. To make sure it's not the lcd itself, you could try playing a fullscreen game (doesn't have to be playable, just has to display) to see if there are any color variances. Good luck!

Yo man, I've been around. I *lurk* a lot more than post these days. This is a great place just to read and learn about stuff.

But yeah, as far as the laptop, I just got a second one (For My Uncle) that's the exact same model/specs. So, if I see the same problem, I'll know it's just a setting or possibly a driver issue.

I did download a 24 meg file for that specific Display Adapter, and when I tried to run it, it said "No appropriate devices found" which basically means I downloaded the wrong file for my computer. So, I don't know.

Thanks.

It was set to 32, but now it's at 16. The problem is not as evident from the angle look anymore, but it's still there a little. I brought it to work, and people said it's just a characteristic of laptop displays.

And we got the second laptop, exact same model, with the exact same issue. So, I guess it's not a problem so much, and I don't have to RMA it, but I still like ot know how to fix it. It's sort of a gradient issue I guess, how it doesn't fill the color properly.

Oh well.

Thanks for the replies.

You can tweak your screen by going into the advanced settings of your display properities and adjusting brightness, contrast and such. Also make sure you are running the optimum resolution and refresh rates for your particular screen.

agreed with garster.. I forgot about mentioning that; running an LCD (especially a laptop lcd) at a non-native resolution will cause graphics to look distorted. I'm not sure if I fully understand the problem you're describing, but hopefully it can be solved with something simple.

Sorry yall, didn't see the replies. I will definitely check it out. Like I said, after getting the second laptop, I'm POSITIVE that it's just a setting somewhere.

Thanks.
