Problem with the consolidated Israle thread policy

I understand and don't take any issue with the policy to consolidate the Israel topics into the four threads.

However, the way it was implemented is flawed.

It consisted of the four threads being created, and trailing off, with the only notice of the policy comments within some thead that ay or may not be read by many members.

We have definitely seen examples of less frequent posters who came here and innocently posted a topc and stumbled into risking a suspension for it.

I sent Common Courtesy, the mod who created the threads and has been most visible enforcing the policy, a PM suggesting one sticky thread with the policy and links to the four threads, a week or more ago. (Edit: I see from another post that he has been away for the last week. Bad timing.)

This is an ongoing menace to less frequest posters unfairly, and all but impractical even to regular members - I search CC's first two pages of recent threads and couldn't find any links to two fo the four 'mandatory threads' which may be many pages into the old posts section by now. I don't even remember their topics - only one of the four has stayed on the front page in days that I recall, the Gaza thread.

So I'm re-posting my suggestion here to put up a sticky with the policy and links to the four mandatory threads while the policy is in effect.

Just today I saw a member I hadn't heard of who made an otherwise perfectly good thread and was suspended for a week for it - quite possibly unaware of the policy.

That doesn't serve anyone well.

Craig please see my thread I feel as though the 4 threads (i only knew of one) are stifling conversation on the topic. Part of the use of the politics and news forum is to post news articles. Why should posting news articles or news video be against policy?

The way it is now is fine. The only people with the issues are the ones trying to start misleading threads.

Eh, a sticky at the top would help. There's obviously been an influx of posters into P&N as can be expected...not familiar with the rules and the "rules".

I have read both PFI threads and can understand your frustration as well as noticing that some see what the issues that caused the consolidation.

As an compromise, Middle East threads should be started based on articles and stay on track with the article; not generating into an who is right/wrong argument that always ends up sidetracking. When an article thread exists, additional articles related to the subject should NOT have their own thread.

Those that have been vacationed for generating threads will be pardoned on Wednesday.

It would have been better if they started this policy a year or so ago, then P&N might have been usefull.

Anand has nothing to do with the forums. You might want to change that to Derek.
