Problem with tape backup - "Media is not appendable"...

Running Veritas tape backup software. The backup job was running fine every night up until about 2 weeks ago. Then suddenly, the job started failing every night. The log said the job failed because "the media is not appendable". Tried different tapes and got the same message. How is it determined if the media is appendable or not? Is there a way to make non-appendable media appendable?

I realize there are different options when it comes to backing up a hard drive to tape. I assume that just telling the software to do a full backup would stop the job from failing. What is the benefit of using the appendable option?

It really depends on how you have you Media Set defined.

What is your Append Period set to (your Media Set \ Properties)?

Generally you can set it to Infinite - Allow Append, as there is no real
advantage to Append Protection, only Overwrite Protection.

More than likely your Media is full and cannot overwrite because of the Append Protection.

Just my 2cents worth....
