Problem with Syntax Olevia 30" LCD HDTV

I have the Syntax Olevia 30" LCD HDTV. When I turn on the TV, the screen turns to its usual blue, but then there is a buzzing/humming sound coming from the speakers for about 2 seconds, and then the screen turns black, as if the TV is off. I know the TV is not off because I can hear music from my DVD player coming out from the speakers. The blue standby light is also not on. If I hit the power button on the TV, it does finally go off and the blue standby light comes on. Anyone know why the screen blacks out after I turn on the TV?
 
I have a similar issue...when I'm watching DVDs using the Progressive input and switch back to TV, the screen goes black, but the sound is still there. I have to switch it off first, and then turn it back on before the TV picture comes back on. Anyone else have this problem?
