Well, I just upgraded from Windows 98 to XP home and well the sound card doesn't seem to like it. It's an I/O Magic Aureal Vortex PCI. When I look under dxdiag it practically displays no options there and when I play games like Jedi Outcast, 10 minutes in the game I lose my sound completely. I've looked for updated drivers, but there aren't any for Win XP. I eventually have to restart the computer to regain my sound system. Am I stuck to getting a new card? Help is appreciated.

there is no driver support. that is the best you will be getting out of it unfortunately. You can either buy a new sound card or give up on a3d support.

Darn, that is quite unfortunate. Windows XP hasn't been a great upgrade for me so far. It just keeps makin' me buy new things...argh. Thanks.

Well, the only thing is, is that it only messes things up in games, not while in Windows. Could it be that the CPU is overheating? I'm guessing it is still just an incompatibility with the sound card, but who knows. Thanks.
