Here are the symptoms:

-When playing MP3's in Winamp and using the seek bar, there is a delay when moving to another portion of the song.
It will fade out very slightly, move to the selected portion, fade in. There is about a 1 second delay.
There is never no sound at all, just fading out and in.
CD's play with lots of cracking/popping.
I can play the same MP3 in Windows Media Player with no problems (strange).

-While playing games, mostly FPS, will result in a delay of sounds, i.e. explosions and gun shots will be delayed by a split second.

Latest drivers for windows XP are used.
The hardware includes:
MSI K7T Ultra2 (KT133A)
Athlon XP 1600+
384 MB PC133
GF3 Ti200 64 MB
WD 100 GB 7200
SB Live 5.1 MP3+
Live Drive (original).

Thing's I've tried:
I've moved the card to different PCI slots.
Latest drivers
Another SB Live 5.1

I just tried an audigy and the same problem happens.
Going to test the on board sound soon.

I'm suspecting it may be the motherboard.

Firstly, try disabling Cross-fading in Winamp for play, pause, stop, and seek

Explosions and gun-shots in games, are probably being delayed due to echos, or similar

The new versions of WinAmp 2.x have crossfading on by default IIRC.

Excellent call guys.
All this time I thought something was wrong with my system, lagging the sound.
I was about to declare the PCI bus faulty

All is well now!
Thanks a bunch :p
