whenever i scroll with the scroll button in IE using the MX700 mouse, the CPU usage jumps to well past 50% and if i do so quickly, jumps to 100% and gets the point of stalling by having the motherboard speaker beep.

scrolling in other programs or other browsers like firefox doesnt cause the CPU usage to jump. this really annoys me since it causes whatever i'm watching whether it be MPEGS, DVDS, or TV to skip for the duration of the scroll.

i have the latest mouseware installed on windows XP. if i can run without the software i would but i need my buttons configured and thats the only way to do so.

so anyone know a fix for this problem? switching completely to another browser is not a complete solution. i need the fix so i can use IE.

Can you give us some info on your systems. On older systems, the USB can really drag down your system.

Hmmm...the system is plenty powerful and newer, so that shouldn't be the case. You do have a ton of USB devices though, but again, it shouldn't matter since the USB should be on the Hyper Transport connection. I'm not quite sure. I know this is probably not it, but make sure your drives, optical and HD's, are running in DMA mode. Sometimes some CDROM's default to PIO and can slow down the system.

Only other thing I can suggest is to maybe disable smooth scrolling in IE?

wow thanks. it was the smooth scrolling. disabled it and CPU change is negligible.

never heard of such a thing. although i did have a system hickup when my sound driver was f*cked or something. bah, reinstall drivers for vid/sound. make an image and try reinstalling windows and see if the same happens. its not the mouse, its something else.
