I have an nforce motherboard amd xp2500+ and an old sb-live 5.1. Whenever my computer is doing something the music I am listening to skips and makes a weird beeping sound. I am wondering if it could be fixed, I bet its a driver problem that they never fixed but I can still be hopeful. If not just wondering if an m-audio revolution 5.1 is a good sound card that wouldnt give me these problems.

Thanks

You could try the kX Project drivers instead and see if they fix your problem. Creative quit updating the SB Live drivers years ago, but the kX ones are still being worked on.

If your mobo has onboard audio, make sure it's disabled in the BIOS.

If you're looking for a new card that's relatively inexpensive, I recently replaced an SB Live 5.1 with a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz for 30 bucks. I'm very pleased with it.

Turtle beach would be nice but it is hard to find in the toronto area and I will try those drivers thanks.

Might be an IRQ issue. The SB may be sharing an IRQ. Try moving the card to another slot and see if it resolves that problem. I had the same issue a few years ago cuz I was using 3 scsi cards a sound card a tv card and a second video card. When ever I played an mp3 and did anything that involved HD activity I would get screeches, skips, all sortsa crap. Got rid of the SCSI setup and it went away. Too much PCI bus utilization I guess.
