Problem with running DOOM III with new 6800GT

I just installed my new Gainward 6800GT Golden Sample. Install went without a hitch, everything seems to be running fine.

However when I went to start DOOM III, the program acts like it's about to start, then crashes to the desktop.

My new card is OC to the ultra settings.

Any ideas as to what's going on?

Thanks for the assist.

Prime95.

If you get errors there, that's why.

Is your CPU overclocked? Even if it isn't, it may still generate errors due to heat (especially with that 6800gt). My roommate has to underclock his 9800pro to 250 (yes two-hundred fifty) mhz just to stop the artifacting. He has a HP computer that gets HOT to the touch when under load (games).

^ edit: The actual case which is plastic gets hot to the touch.

Ok I set it to the card to the GT defaults.

3D mark ran fine, with the card overclocked. City of Heroes worked as well. CoD crashed once, but I was then able to play. I ran the Hurtegen level without any problems.

What's wierd is two times Doom actually started, but then crashed when I loaded a saved game. What's really wierd is that the monitor went black, and I had to reboot.

I'm such an idiot, I just updated my nividia drivers two weeks agon, so I assumed that they would be ok. Evidently the card wasn't happy with them. I just uninstalled my old driver, and then installed the driver that came with the card.

Seems to be happy now.

OMG!!, I was wondering what the fuss was about. Doom III looks amazing on this card!

I was running a 5900ultra before.

Thanks for the help
