Problem with RK-8200 keyboard

So I got this keyboard about 2 months ago for two reasons: it was cheap and had all the components I wanted (macro keys, backlight, volume control), and it came with a gaming mouse that I wanted to give to my brother.

However, I did not use the keyboard until recently because the rest of my pc I was building was not complete. Upon using the keyboard for the first time, I noticed the backlight is not working:\. I can't RMA it because it has been too long. I am left with two options:

1. Try to open the keyboard and fix the backlight manually. Does anyone have any helpful tips if I tried to do this?

2. Get a new keyboard. I'm a poor student so my budget it tight. All I would like is a backlight (not for looks I actually need them so I can see the keys when I'm working at night) and volume controls. I can live without the macro keys. Any suggestions?

Yes I have, but the 30 day limit for the RMA has long passed. They were actually very generous and offered me newegg store credit anyway, but since I got it for $25, I feel it is not worth the shipping cost. Also if I were to send the keyboard back, I wouldn't be able to use my computer as I don't have a replacement in the meantime.

So since I won't be returning it, I guess the best option would be to purchase another cheap keyboard, since I really don't have the technical skills to fix it. If you have any suggestions for that, I'd take it.
