problem with repairing an XP pro install

when i tried to repair a friends computer's XP pro install, it asks me for the admin password before it can repair. there is no password, we never set one up. whats the deal? what can we do?
 
Just because his user account doesn't have a password doesn't mean there is no administrator password. I never had a password on my account and recently when I had to fixmbr, it took me a 2nd reboot into Windows Setup (like 5 guesses) until I got it correct since it was such a seldom used password that I didn't remember entering when I installed XP.
