Problem with recovered Word documents.

Hey everyone. My friend recently had a problem with his hard drive, and I was able to recover pretty much all of his files. However, most of his Word documents are cut short. They all appear to be about 20KB. I can open them, but they're only about a paragraph or two, instead of two pages. He's using Windows XP and Office 2003. I'm not sure what other information I should provide. Has anyone experienced something like this? Thanks.
