Problem with power supply for A8N-E

I'm having a problem with the power supply selection on as Asus A8N-E motherboard. In addition to the CPU, I'm running a 6600GT video card, two DVD burners, two SATA hard drives, and four case fans.

I have been using a no-name power supply from Best Buy with some success. It's a "Dynex" (supposedly, Dynex is a brand name made just for Best Buy) DX-PS500W 500W power supply. It's rated for 40A on the 5V rail, 16A on 12V1, and 18A on 12V2. There is an LED on the motherboard itself which indicates good power supply. With this Dynex, I'm getting a good steady green light. The system powers up and works just fine with this power supply.

I recently ordered a Fortron Source AX-450PN. This 450W FSP power supply comes highly recommended. However, it doesn't seem to work with my motherboard. I'm very confused by this. It's rated for 28A on the 5V rail, 18A on 12V1, and 18A on 12V2. The light on the motherboard blinks intermittently with this PSU, and the computer does not respond to the power switch.

Could it possibly be that this highly rated power supply does not supply enough power for my system? What else might be the problem? I would appreciate any recommendations.

probably a problem with the Fortron. Try it in a different system if possible, then RMA if it doesn't work there either.

I would RMA it and get another.

Of course you could always go with the OKIA 600watt w/dual Quad 12v rails!!

OKIA--the name legends are made from!!
