Problem with PNY6800 and Far Cry

Hi there,

I recently bought PNY 6800 and successfully unlocked its 4 pipelines using RivaTuner. I ran 3DMark03/05 five times and I have not seen any artifacts. However, when I play Far Cry, I can see artifacts all over the place. I have tried installting different drivers, but the problem still persists (I even removed the softmod). Also, I tried to run the game as OpenGL -- I get an error after 2 mins in the game: Nv_Disp.dll".

I would appreciate if some can assist me what I shuold do.

If you're still getting artifacts when you uninstall NVStrap and go back to the original 12 pipelines, there may be something wrong w/your card. I had a BFG 6800 which, after unlocking, ran 3D05 perfectly and 3D03 with almost unnoticable artifacts only in game 3, but clearly showed some artifacts (particularly texture corruption in, for example, the containers in the archives and the floor in the factory) in Far Cry. Switching back to 12p made everything look perfect in FC and 3D03 - a sure indication of defective pipelines. Also, with the softmod in place, if you are unable to OC (or downclock) the card even 1 MHz in RivaTuner, chances are that the formerly locked pipelines have defects which are detected by the automatic test. They just may not be severe enough to show up in all games and benchmarks as was the case of my BFG card.

Thanks Black Pearl for the advise. My problem is fixed now since i didnot correctly revert the NvStrap Softmodding. However, after reading your reply, I tried one more time and it is now working perfectly. Thanks again.

By the way, do you know how much difference it would make if softmod is active?

I just want to thank you tinkoo81 for responding with what you did to resolve your problem. A vast majority of the time people will not post a final response regarding if and how their problem was fixed, which is very helpful for people experiencing similar problems.

tinkoo81, I'm glad your card is working properly.
For me, the softmod improved benchmarks:
3D03 - about 800 points; 3D05 - about 400 points; Aquamark - about 2,500 points.
But the main advantage for me was that the additional performance let me either increase resolution or increase filtering levels in games like Far Cry and HL2. That's a nice benefit, but even without the softmod these cards play current games with very good performance.
