I am currently having troubles with a PNY GeForce4 Ti4200. The card is just under a year old and recently (within the last week or two) has developed a few very annoying "quirks." One, whenever I play any relatively modern game, the game develops terrible image problems. I'm not sure if you'd call them artifacts or not, they seem almost too big to be artifacts. here are some screenshots from UT2003. I apologize for the poorly coded HTML, but i did that kind of quicly.
Another problem is that in windows the monitor with occasionally pop black for a few seconds. Its not a continual black screen, its more like what happens when you adjust the resolution. The monitor kind of "pops" and goes black, then "pops" again and comes back. The problem doesn't happen when I'm just looking at my desktop, but sometimes when I'm loading a webpage. It appears to happen more often the more IE windows I have open. Additionally, if i stay on the same page for a long time, the problem dissapears. Finally, when the screen returns after going black for a minute, I notice that sometimes there are errors in the webpage, or whatever happens to be on the screen at the moment. Letters will be stacked up on top of each other, or a picture will be in the wrong place. Both of these problems can be remedied by scrolling the affect part of the page off the screen and back on again.
So far, in trying to fix this, I have reinstalled Windows (upgraded from Win2000 to WinXP Pro at the same time), I've upgraded to the latest drivers (45.23), I've also rolled back to a previous driver update. (44.03).
This problem started once when i restarted my computer to change some things in my BIOS. I changed them back and still haven't had any success in fixing the problem.
My other system components are as follows:
Asus A7M266 Mobo.
AMD AthlonXP 1800+ (Palomino core)
512MB (2x256MB) PC2100 DDR RAM
Hercules Game Theater XP (sound card)
D-Link DFE-530TX+
80GB Western Digital Caviar SE
100GB Western Digital Caviar
160GB Western Digital Caviar SE
Promise Ultra100TX2 ATA Controller
Nothing is overclocked, everything at stock/auto speed settings. My temps are (according to Mobo):
CPU 52C/125F
MB 29C/84F
these are about average.
This is the same system configuration I've been using for the past year. The only change I've made since i got the video card was the addition of the 160GB hard drive in July.
Is my problem software related? or hardware, and is it more likely my video card, motherboard, memory, processor, or something else?
