I have a Plextor M5P 256GB SSD as my boot drive, it's been a pretty solid drive so far but I have a recurring problem that really is starting to get me concerned.
Very often (I can't say always because I don't remember if it's always... ) after the computer sets off for a while... say 12 hours or more, when I try to restart the computer the drive is not found on boot. I have a second SSD installed at the moment (I'm building a clean OS install to update the Plextor) so it will default to the secondary drive... but I usually have to restart it once or twice to get it to finally find the Plextor and boot into Windows.
This morning was a little different, however... it wouldn't find the Plextor. At all. It didn't even see it after I booted into the secondary SSD and pull up the drive list. Finally, I pulled the drive, put it in a disk cradle and tried to boot from it, which resulted in a BSOD. Booting into the secondary SSD I was finally able to see it and open the files up. I pulled it out, returned it to the PC, and now it's fine.
I have swapped cables and ports... but it will still do it. I have extended the drive search time in the BIOS 5 seconds, thinking maybe it was a hesitation in the Plextor powering up, which seemed to help... but now this today.
The Plextor has some pretty aggressive power saver mode I understand... it only shows 1000 power-on hours, and it should be well over 4000 hours; I'm wondering if this doesn't have something to do with it? ...going into sleep mode and not being able to pull out of it when it's time to wake up?
Any thoughts? 😕
