Problem with Philips 8x4x32 cdrw (PCRW804)

Hi,

Description of problem:

P3-650, 256mb RAM, Win2k, 30gig 75gxp, Philips 8x4x32 cdrw.

I'm burning a working bin/cue file with Fireburner with my Philips CDRW drive. The burn is at 8x and gets all the way to 56% and then my computer locks up. I can move the mouse cursor around but the screen does not change other than that. No matter where I click, nothing happens. This has never happened to me in Win2k before. My CDRW drive has it's "disc in" light flashing with it's "writing" light off. I'm fairly certain the drive has stopped working and I've just made a coaster. I wait about a minute, hoping everything will be ok. Around a minute or so, my screen starts to erupt in actions; all the actions that my mouse clicking and whatnot should have done, but didn't. So all these things happen, like opening and closing windows, the start menu popping up, happen in a flash, and then everything is back to frozen screen with mouse cursor active. I kept waiting and the experience kept happening; every minute or so, all the actions would happen in a second, then frozen again. I lose hope and reboot. I try the burn again and it works. I try another burn right after, with Fireburner, and same problem happens.

What I'm trying to ask is: Is it Fireburner or my CDRW drive that is having probs? Bad media perhaps? I'm using the Kensiko CDRs from Staples.
