Problem with Partition Magic

I'm currently trying to create a new partition for a new operating system on my older computer. However, PM insists that my Primary partition has 0.0 mbs free, and refuses to create a new partition. Okay so it formatted, then when it tries to boot, windows begins to load, flashed a blue screen, way too fast to read. Now the computer can no longer boot. Any idea what happened and how I can fix it? Thanks.
Horray 2000 posts!

You should have created a Partition Magic Rescue CD or Floppy
before you started the process. This may be the only way to
get your drive back ... However, you may want to try a FIXMBR
from the windows recovery console

As to why you could not create the partition, you must resize the
existing partiton first to free space up, before you can create
a new partition .... any overlaps need to be taken into account when
trying to decide on a partition size

Alright thanks for the help, if the FIXMBR doesn't work, can I wipe the drive and start from scratch with the drive?

Boot with the XP installation CD.

When prompted, press R to repair a Windows XP installation.

If repairing a host with multiple operating systems, select the appropriate one (XP) from the menu. If you have only one operating system, enter 1 to select it.

Enter the administrator password if prompted.

To fix the MBR, use the following command: fixmbr

partition magic also has a bad habit of trashing your hard drive (kind of) in certain curcumstances. The worst is if you have a power outage or if it hangs up during a resize operation and you power down and reboot. Your hard drive will no longer be accessable.

BUT...

all of the info is still there and safe. Download ptedit from the symantec web site and change the partition type from 0x3C back to whichever file system you are using. The 0x3C (it'll show up in ptedit as 3C) designates a powerquest partition so the OS won't try to modify it. The menu selection at the bottom has all the info for the different types of partitions.

so, you might want to check the partition type before you reformat and start over.

This computer was a prebuilt and did not come with an installation disc though.
