Problem with Opera

I recently re-installed WinXP SP2 on my system, then when about intalling all my major app, drive, and all that sort of thing.

I'v been using Opera as my primary browser and e-mail client for a while now. In fact it has always seemed quicker then IE in every way. However, sence my re-install Opera has been lagging everytime I open or close a and it will even hang while pages load.

I can be impatient so while I wait for slower pages to load I will click away to my e-mail, browse my bookmarks or google something (a google search often comes back faster then many pages take to load) while I wait.

This however has become imposable and very frustrating as Opera totaly hangs when new tabs are opened or closed and during inital pages loads.

i've been seeing the same things, worsening with every release. upon exiting the program, the marathon caching session takes 75-100% cpu usage (opt 165, 2 GHz) for a minute or two, depending on how much internetting i've done since opening the program. last night, opera decided to go fubar, crashing after 3-5 minutes of browsing, then 1 minute, then seconds after opening. i knew this wasn't going to get any better, so....

Opera 9.25

save opera6.adr on the desktop

Completely removing Opera and its settings from your system

so far, the clean re-installation has been running fine. it is pretty frustrating, but i'm going to stick with opera. i'm confident these problems will be worked out. in the short term, setting opera to Identify as Internet Explorer might help with the hangs and page layout errors.

Hmm, I haven't had these problems for quite a while. Back in Opera 8 I would get some hangups on page loading. But I'm using the latest Opera on Vista 64 and it runs perfectly.

You mention a caching session though... Mine may run nicely due to settings I have. I tell Opera to clear all cookies on exit, and to not save any history. My cache is at the default 20mb, and it checks for documents and images "always."

Why do I save no history and cookies? With bookmarks and wand, I have no need for those archaic things. =p

I solved the problem. Opera data is stored in :\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Opera\Opera\Profile

there is a folder named "sessions" in this folder were over 65000 temp files. Delete the folder no more problems!

weird. i have opera 9.25 the only issue i've ever had were with quicktime movies. and that occured because i stupidely let apple software updater install quicktime when i already had quicktime lite. so the opera quicktime plugin was fubared. an uninstall of both programs and fresh reinstall fixed the issue.

but hey, opera 9.5 is coming soon. supposed to be much better. cool new features too.
