Hey guys,

I've been trying to setup my old A7V with a 1ghz Duron to be my fileserver.

But, I can't get it to boot from ANYTHING@!@! Floppy, CDrom, i haven't tried the hard drive yet but there's nothing installed on it anyways.

I thought it might be a BIOS problem, but I can't even boot from the floppy to flash to the latest (I have 1005C, I think it's up to 1011x now)

Do you guys have any thoughts?? Any info I should give that I've missed??

older bios versions dont support morgan cpu's... do you have tbird or spitfire you can use temporarily till you get the bios updated?

i used to run a whole bunch of a7v motherboards, and im thinking its bios revision 1007 or newer gives support for morgans (but its been so long ago i cant remember for sure)

**EDIT**
i just checked the asus web site.. to support the 1ghz duron (morgan) you need pcb 1.05 and bios 1008 or newer
http://www.asus.com/support/cpusupport/cpusupport.aspx

but im pretty sure i used morgans on a a7v pcb 1.04 so YMMV

ah, ok that makes sense.

thanks for the very helpful post(s), mine is rev. 1.02 so maybe I'll see if anyone will trade an old 1ghz Tbird for my Duron.

cheers

you also shouldnt have any problems trading it for a 800-950mhz duron + $$, and since the board can manually adjust multiplier you can always run it at 1ghz or faster (as you probaly already know its easy to unlock the old durons and tbirds with just a pencil)
