Problem with nvidia ide/ata drivers?

I recently thought that I had a hard drive problem because when I went in and did dskchk it said it had errors. I did a fix but the problem still existed. Many times when I would reboot it would take me to the safe mode, start normally page. Sometimes it would boot just fine. Well, after returning the hard drive and reinstalling xp pro sp2 I started installing things. After installing the nvidia drivers the problem started again. I rolled back the 2 ide/ata drivers to the microsoft drivers and now for over a day I have had no problems. The motherboard is the chaintech vnf3-250. The drivers I got from chaintech don't seem to work. They are not the most recent drivers as they are like 4.24 or something like that and the ones from nvidia are 4.6 or something close. Should I just go to the nvidia site and try theirs or just stay with what I have because it now works.

Inge,

I have built many nForce 2 & 3 systems and have had nothing but problems with those drivers.

Stay with the M$ drivers and you'll be fine.

I just replaced a hard drive thinking that. Brand new seagate. Got another and same thing. Very unlikely. It works great now for over two days. Has to be the drivers.

It is the nVidia drivers. I went through the exact same process, thinking my brand new Seagate SATA drive was fubar, then my Maxtor SATA drive that Ive had for 6 months started doing the same thing. After alot of Googling and reading I removed the nVidia drivers and havent had a problem since. Matter of fact, Im sitting here trying to spec out a new system to use with a socket 939 3200+ amd, cant decide if I want to gamble with nVidia again or use Via.

I'm using the Chaintech VNF4 Ultra with WD Raptor RAID 0.

Haven't had any problems. I first used the latest drivers from NV and put them on a floppy so I could setup the RAID. After installing windows I installed the forceware drivers using the install program and haven't had any problems.

Hopefully things will continue to work. Maybe they've fixed the problem.

That is the exact setup on the next one I am building for a guy. Think either the asus a8v, or abit av8 or gigabyte. One of the three.

Just built another computer and just for kicks tried the sw drivers again. SAME DANG problem. I just read somewhere that there is an issue with benq dvdrw an the firmware. Anyone hear of such an issue? I will try and work it out I guess or just roll back the swdrivers.

I called benq and got the latest firmware but it did not help. Uninstalling the sw drivers did not help. I had to take out the benq 1620 pro dvdrw. Now it works great. So there are some hardware issues with either the drivers or the hardware. What dvd rw does everyone have???????????????????????????????????

Nvidia SW ide drivers gave me 6 months of trouble free operation on nforce2.
Then they borked me good. The only fix was fdisk/format!

Now it's a couple of years later running M$ drivers trouble free.
If the SW ide drivers were anything more than an afterthought to Nvidia, they would have made them right a long time ago.

I have a Plextor 712SA which seems to work fine with the VNF4 - single layer so it may not be what you need. Also, I haven't used nVidia's IDE drivers -- based on the ongoing grumbling I use the default MS IDE drivers. My system is all SATA, no PATA drives.

could these nvidia ide drivers be the reason im not getting any good quality burns on my nec 3520a dvd burner even on good media... Fuji 8x Taiyo Yuden burned at 8x?

I have run several nforce boards and I allways have stayed with the MS drivers for IDE devices and I have never had a problem.

There is a firmware for the benq 1620 to support nvidia controller with nvidia drivers. nvidia controller with standard microsoft works good without the special firmware.

what kind of problems did you encounter?

ive had no problems.. other than suspecting that the NV drivers are screwy with my burner.. someone with a 3520a got low PI errors of like under 10 and low PIF errors to boot. My system is getting high spikes even at the rated 8x on good quality TY DVD+R media.. :(

no buffer problems, and no unsuccessful burns. my 2 sata drives (i guess they all use the NV drivers, nvatabus.sys) connected havent hiccupped 1 bit either.

I got the latest firmware directly from benq. It was to no avail. I unhooked it and it now works great. Bought a new asus dvdrw and no problems. This was an oem 1620 pro. Must be something with the oem?
