Problem with nVidia GLX in Linux

I loaded SuSE 7.0 onto my second partition and proceeded to download the latest RPMs for my geForce2 GTS, since it's not fully supported by the original Linux installation. The online manual said to "rpm -Uvh" the kernel module, then "rpm -e" the GLX libraries to remove the old GLX files. It went on to say it's important not to upgrade the GLX libraries directly, because it will delete some files that are needed and are not supplied by the upgrade. After removing the old GLX, "rpm -ivh" the new GLX files.
So I switched to a console and entered the "rpm -Uvh" command followed by the first NVIDIA-related filename in the download directory. After attempting to carry out the rest of the instructions, I discovered that the first NVIDIA file in the directory wasn't the kernel, but the GLX rpm! I feared the worst, but went on with the XF86Config adjustment and the rest of the installation procedure. When I gave the "startx" command, though, my fears were realized: the X server wouldn't start, and the logfile showed that it was due to a problem with GLX!
Now I ask you, the omniscient community, is there a simple way to correct the mis-installation of the GLX files and restore the GUI in all its glory? I have yet to play Quake3 in Linux!
