Here's my situation: I just reformatted my C: drive, installed Win98SE, installed all the appropriate Windows Updates, then performed a Clean boot by updating MSCONFIG so that Windows only started up the SysTray, installed Norton SystemWorks 2003 Pro (did not install CleanSweep or Go Back), performed a LiveUpdate to obtain all the Symantec updates, ran some of the NSW programs (Full System NAV scan, SpeedDisk, One Button Checkup) without a single problem, then installed Norton Internet Security 2003, performed LiveUpdate again, configured and ran a couple of NIS tests without a problem.
Then, set up a new User (Start, Settings, Control Panel, Users), selecting all the items to copy for the new user, all still while in Clean Boot mode except that NSW and NIS were now automatically started along with SysTray. Rebooted, signed on with the new User, launched NSW, noticed that the NAV Status screen showed 'Full System Scan' as Incomplete. Selected 'Scan Now', and received the following message:
'Norton AntiVirus cannot find the task. You may not have rights to read the task. Check your user settings. Error 3014,554'
I checked the Symantec link - MS Task Manager is working fine, the Norton 'SCA' files are fine, so that leaves me with uninstalling and reinstalling all the Norton software....again! :-(
Am I doing something wrong, or is there a bug in the Norton Software? Any ideas on how I should get past this problem?
PS. I previously performed the same scenario with NSW 2001 without any problems., so this is my first experience wih NSW 2003 and NIS 2003.
PPS. I also just converted from a LinkSys hub to a LinkSys Router (BEFSX41), though I doubt if this is related to my problem.
PPPS. My system is: 400 Mhz, 192Mb, 8Gb, Road Runner Cable modem.
Thanks, Rick
