I'm writing here because no on in the software forum could help.

I cant seem to run nfs: High Stakes on my new PC. I am almost possitive it is a hardware problem. The game ran fine on my old PC. NFS installs fine, but when I go to run it says files are corrupt and to re-install. It still does this even after I re-install the game. I used my Pioneer DVD116 to install it and my TEAC 12x10x32, I thought the drives weren't reading the CD right, but I get the same results with both drives.
My old PC- 900Mhz athlon, Asus A7v133, 128Mb PC133, 20Gb 7200rpm ata100, geforce2 mx, Teac 540E, TEAC 4x4x32, 300watt PS
My new pc- 1.33Ghz athlon, Epox 8K7A, 512MB PC2100, 40Gb 7200rpm ata100, geforce2 gts, Pioneer DVD116, Teac 12x10x32, 340watt

PS Please help, I wanna play!!!!

I don't know, but you might try cleaning the CD. Sometimes they get dirty so the reader can't read them.

If that still doesn't work, try copying the entire contents of the NFS cd to your hard drive and installing it off your hard drive.

1. Boogak's solution would also work. However, you would most likely need to use CDCLONE to copy all the cd's contents onto your hard drive. Then, you'd probably need to get a different .exe file for the game to start off your hard drive.

or

2. you could use one of those "FakeCD" programs like daemon tools (i think it's called) which tells the game to read the hard drive instead of the cd.

hope this helps.

The CD is clean as a whistle.
DMA is disabled on both drives.
When I copy the CD to the hard drive and try to install, it says must install from CD.

Where do I get CDCLONE or daemon tools? Are they free?

Why wont my drives read the CD? Should I try putting my Teac 540E back in and see if it still reads the CD?
