Problem with Nexstar 3 eSATA external drive

I got this new Nexstar 3 drive enclosure. I put a 500GB Western Digital drive into it. The USB works fine, but the eSATA freezes windows if it's turned on. If it's already on, it crashes windows at startup. I'm using the eSATA bracket, no controller card. I have tried making the drive primary, and logical. I have tried making it the only drive in the computer. No luck. I see other people mention problems with the eSATA.
I'm using a MSI-7125 motherboard. Thanks

Jumper the drive to SATA 150(MB/s) as your mobo is only SATA 150. Your integrated controller does not support hot-swapping/eSATA (I looked it up - only a few of the most recent mobos do) so you will have to use your drive as a regular drive. IOW, you'll have to hook it up and power it up before you boot your system and then power your system down before you power down and disconnect the external drive. You will have to get a controller like the Rosewill RC-210 that supports hot-swap and true eSATA if that is the way you want to use the drive (I have one and it works well). You can get similar cards that are SATA 2 (300) but you won't get much in the way of improved performance for the extra money as the drive itself is the bottleneck, not the interface.

Thanks. I found out about the jumper this morning after reading the Newegg reviews.. It works fine now, and surprise, it is hot swappable too. I can turn it on and off whenever I want, no need for a controller card.

That's interesting. I wonder if they plan on doing a recall. Yeah, right....

Not sure have you already tried:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Msahci

Double Click “START” on the right Pane change the Value to “0″ Reboot. And Enable ACHI in your BIOS either F1,F2,Del, F10 Depending on your Mobo?

Got my Nexstar to be Hot Swappable right away****
