Problem with NewEgg and 1 gig AXIA

Ordered a 1 gig T-Bird on Tuesday, May 29th. I received the CPU today on Tuesday, June 5th. The OEM CPU was encased in a small plastic holder. Unfortunately three corners of pins on the CPU were bent beyond repair. Looks like this happened when the CPU was placed in the holder. I called for a replacement today and was a little upset that NewEgg does not cross ship CPU's. So now I have to wait for them to receive the CPU back (another 3-7 days) and then they will send a replacement. That's an unacceptable timeframe to me.

Hopefully they accept the damaged CPU back. Sounds to me like they might want to inspect it first. Of course you could have bought the replacement outright and received a credit for the RMA'd one. You would have had the replacement sooner.

But, they charge you 15% for refunds. So he would be loosing out on a good chunk of money for something he didn't do.

funny you mention the bent pins, my new 1.2gig 266fsb came with a couple of bent ones too, and, not wanting to wait, and having straightened pins out before, well..............

it is running fine, no problems. i have had her up to 1466, just waiting for the MC462. the pins easily bend back, the only time i have ever had a problem is when they almost bent over flat. i find that very long, thin needlenose pliers gets them close, then for final alignment i carefully put it in the socket (sometimes its takes a bit of time, you got to make each pin makes it in the hole and you definately don't want touse too much force)and clamp down the ziff lever, and that takes care of the last of any misalignment very easily. actually, if you examine a ziff socket, you will notice a slight champher to each hole, it allows for slight misalignments of pins, as long as they aren't too far out of wack.

sorry for the diddy, i personally have straightened many a pin, and i have never lost one because of it.

Almost no vendors will cross ship a new cpu, and the very rare ones who do will want to put a charge on your credit card for security, in case the chip is not sent back. From a business standpoint, it must be this way. I get lots of similar claims, on dead birds. It's strange that as soon as I remind them that core breakage or chips in the core is not covered, how I never hear from most of them again. :Q

GreggyD,

I found that MOST verders will cross ship IF you dont mind giving them your credit card number in trade for good faith. If not thats not very good Customer Service!

I tried allowing them to use my CC for cross-ship. They declined.

The pins (over 30 of them) were WAY too horizontal to try to align correctly. I didn't want to mess with them. After all, I did pay for a CPU with straight pins. It's just unfair to wait another week for what I paid for.

The end of a mechanical pencil with no lead in it, seems to fit perfectly over pins for straightening them too.

Compuwiz, thanks for the tip, honestly! :)

But I didn't pay for the privilege to straighten 30 pins.

Of course you didn't. Sometimes though, it's the lesser of two evils. Send back a CPU and having to wait is no fun either. :(

nahh, this is probably isolated incidents. I had my OEM shipped in the same plastic holder, and it came fine w/o a single problem. NewEgg packed it really well, plastic holder in bubblewrap, plenty of space for cushioning. i really don't see how the pins could've been bent. but oh well, UPS lost my RAM once so I know freaky things DO happen.
