Problem with new router and dropped connection

I just two days ago replaced my old zyxel router with the dlink dgl-4300. At first I was pretty happy with the performance but then I noticed that every hour or so my internet connection would drop for about 15 seconds then come back on. This wasn't just happening on my wireless connection either, it also happened at the same time on the two other wired connections in the house. I checked the log for the router and right when the connection was dropping it said something to the effect of

"Wan interface cable has been disconnected"

followed by

"Wan interface cable has been connected"

which I don't really know how to interpret as no one is plugging and unplugging the cable, and I made sure to replace the cable connecting the cable modem to the router with a new one also. Any ideas guys?

Thanks.

Connect the router to the cable modem using the old ethernet cable, just to be sure that the new cable is not the cause of the problem. If the problem persists, I would suspect an issue with the WAN port on the router or an odd compatibility/configuration issue between the router and the modem.

I had a Linksys router do almost exactly the same thing a while ago (same effect but no messages in the log) and it turned out to be a failing WAN port on the router.
