problem with new PC build

Building a new rig for my wife. I have everything physically put together, main board, cpu, HSF, PS, and one HD. Flip the power switch, main board lights up, PS fan, CPU fan and 1 case fan activate so that seems fine. I have the monitor plugged into the main board DVI port (onboard video). But there's no output to the monitor. Tried on a different monitor, still no output.

I've had a new rig not turn on at first but never had one turn on and give no input to the monitor.

The only things I can think of are there's something wrong with the main board or I have installed something incorrectly. Any suggestions?

Is there a POST beep? Make sure you have a speaker plugged into the speaker header so you can tell.

Don't forget the little things, like is the 12v CPU power connected, is the CPU fan in the right header, are you unplugging non-essentials like wifi, drives, extra RAM sticks, etc, just to get a first boot, make sure the reset pins aren't in the wrong position.

It's also a possibility that the board/CPU doesn't care for a 12v CPU power connector with only 4 pins.

Could be a variety of things. Make sure the power in properly plugged into the mother board. Make sure the power switch is properly plugged in. Check memory sticks. Make sure your video card is properly seated.

If you have a spare/junk/cheap video card, install it. If it works, you have your answer RE: the motherboard video.

Also, you could have a grounding issue. It doesn't happen very often anymore, but it does happen. The easiest ways to test for this is to either lift a corner(s) up a bit, so that there is not contact, then see if it boots. Another test is to take the whole thing apart and fire it up sitting on a wooden desk, touching nothing.
