Problem with new modem

Trying to get this Rockwell 6973 modem to work. After doing some reaserch it is actually a Conexant HFC. Have no documentation or disk. It 'seems' to install fine. But when I go into Device Manager and click on the modem, I get 'Cannot read port name from registry'. Is this a modem issue or port issue. I usually don't have too many problems figuring these things out but I've spent a few hours on this and I am stumped. Thanks in advance for any and all help.
