problem with new laptop playing cs

Hi guys,

I recently purchased a new hp 14 inch widescreen notebook. When i tried playing cs, i realized that the only resolution that the widescreen option works on is 1280x768. The only thing is that my video card cannot handle running the game at that resolution. I tried going back down to 1024x768 but that made the game looked stretched and distorted because it wasn't in widescreen. My question then is if there is any way to run counterstrike at 1024x768 in widescreen mode or have it run with borders around the sides?

Are you sure that another 16:10 res like 800x480 wasn't available? There isn't a nice 16:10 ratio based on 1024. It would have to be 1024x614.4 to be 16:10.

I'm not sure what the commands are for regular CS, but for CS:S, you can add -width 800 -height 480 in the Launch Options through Steam or in a shortcut target path to force a custom res.
