Problem with "New" GeForce Ti4600

Hi All,

I bought a new Chaintech GeForce Ti4600 128mb video card off eBay for a friends computer. It's probably a bit much for his PIII 650, but for $50.00 +shipping it was a good deal, especially since it was new in the box, and she was using a TNT 16mb card.

My problem is that after booting into XP Pro I lose the video signal within a couple minutes. I doesn't matter if the drivers are installed or not. The motherboard is a Gigabyte Slot 1 board with AGP 2x. Any ideas? It's as if the video card just shuts down.

I'll pull my video card (MSI 6600GT AGP) out of my computer tomorrow and see what happens with the Chaintech GeForce Ti4600.

Suggestions?

That's possible. The Ti4600 is a 2x/4x card, but it may not work with this Gigabyte motherboard. I have the mb manual, but it doesn't say much about the agp slot. I expect it's a agp 1.0 slot.

Try it in your system. It should at least boot into 800x600 mode w/o cleaning up the existing driver and installing a more suitable driver for it. I owned a Chaintech Ti4600 ( G60, I think ) and had it in a number of systems, including a Dell Precision 220, custom-built PC w/ Asus P4c800, and several models of Shuttle xPCs. I purchased it on eBay years ago.

It is possible that you might have to go with older drivers to get best performance. I experienced worse performance when migrating from 4x.xx to 5x.xx drivers.

Yea just switch yours and his video card (if yours can run in 2x) and see what happens when u start em both up. If urs turns black we know what the problems is. If his turns black we know what the problem isnt. If neither happens and it all runs fine its just a compatability issue and u should probably flash the motherboard bios and try the card again.

Hi All,

Just a note to thank you for your suggestions. I did try the Ti4600 in my PC and it worked just fine. I even played some Counter-Strike Source for awhile just to see how it ran on it. After flashing the Giga-byte bios from F6 to F9 the card still did the same thing. So, it seems this video card isn't compatable with the Giga-byte motherboard. Maybe I can find a good used GF3 Ti500, or a Radeon 8500 on eBay.

Yeah, me too. I had a Chaintech Ti4200 128mb card that was sweet, but the 4600 was quite a bit faster then. The 4600 is still a good card for DX8 games. It played CS-Source at 1024x768, medium quality settings very well.

I'll hang onto if for another project.
